Many have discovered the benefits of using the Padlet to gather ideas. Padlet is so easy to use, and it looks inviting and just lovely. One of the best things is that you don't need to log in to use it. The person who created the Padlet simply sends a link to everyone who will be using it. In other words, it's perfectly GDPR-safe to use!  Because Padlet is a popular tool, many have been invited as users at some point. As a user, you get a link and when you click it you are taken to a page that looks a bit like a bulletin board. You may collect ideas in a way that is somewhat similar to post-it notes.

These days everybody wants to be a YouTube star! My students spend all evenings looking at YouTube, and nothing can engage them more than the very idea that they might end up on YouTube! An excellent way to turn engagement up is to let the students make clips that look professional and really, really cool! Flexclip is a free tool, and the students can use their Google accounts to log in, so there is no GDPR-problem!  These days, the simple 2-dimensional ad is as good as dead. Everywhere, we are surrounded by short films that display different messages. Videos, text and audio are put together not only to display information but also to invoke a certain feeling as you watch it. Sometimes the ads provide a sense of warning and importance. Others portray a joyful announcement or an invitation. The important thing is that this is the way to express any kind of message in the future.
When I look at teacher-things on Pinterest, sometimes different templates show up that different teachers have made. They are often stylish and practical, but unfortunately, they are never free. Since I don't usually pay personally for materials that I give to my students, I use Pinterest for "window-shopping" and inspiration.
I have created three different templates that I use in language classes and I would like to share them. I made them in Google Docs and you can easily copy them to your own Google Drive and use them as you like. The first template is for practising irregular verbs. Just change the words that are already filled in so that the student can practice the words that you chose.
Sending text messages from your computer is a perfect life hack that saves time in everyday life. If you are going to write longer messages, or if you want to send them to several people, it is difficult to do so from your cell phone. Google thought about this and launched a service called "Google Messages". I want to tell you pronto just how it works!  Google Messages is an application that connects your computer to your mobile phone. The first time you install it, you only need to scan a QR-code with the cell phone to complete the connection. After that, you can see your SMS and answer them without having to find the cell phone. You may also group your contacts to text several people at the same time. The person who receives the message will see that it was sent from your regular mobile number. It is also possible to mix email addresses and telephone numbers in a contact group so that each recipient receives the message in the way they want.
I love nice images and I often lay down on my bed with Photoshop and create. Others might knit or paint, but I create in Photoshop. I made some headers for my Google Classroom with inspirational quotes for the students (and myself!). I usually get images from Pixabay, put them together and change the size and format to fit Google Classroom.  Google Classroom headers should be in the format 1000 * 250 pixels. The best way to make images is with Adobe Photoshop, but since Photoshop is not free and somewhat tricky to use. Windows Paint will o the job as well. Just click the "change size" button and set the width to 1000 and the height to 250. After that you may paste clipart or photos into your image and put text on it. It's quite fun once you get started!
Writing exercises are always more fun if you know that the texts will be read "for real". It increases creativity and accuracy when the students publishing what they write. It is fun and engaging to create books with images and colours! BookCreator has taken note of this, and they offer a free internet service where you can make real e-books. The books can be collected in the school's own e-library and of course, you can send the links to the parents or whoever you want.  I recently received a tip about a service called BookCreator, and of course, I wanted to try it out with my class. BookCreator lets students create a real e-book, and now that I have tried it with the students, I can honestly say that it was a long time since we had so much fun! It was easy to use the different tools, and it was possible to create many different types of books.
I have written several times about my love for Kahoot, but I have never really taken the time to calmly and properly explain how to create a Kahoot. That's why I'm going to do so right now. Here is an easy step-by-step guide on how to make the classroom rock!  Kahoot is a tool that makes it possible to create fun and engaging quizzes in a simple way. The most common way to use it is through quick knowledge questions, but you can also use questions that require more thinking. Kahoot will automatically add compelling music to your quizzes, that makes it more fun.

I have always had a nerdy great interest in technology. I can find interest in everything from robots to model railroads or the steel industry of the industrial revolution. Technology should take us forward and prevent us from everything boring. You need to dare to be somewhat lazy and ask yourself if there is no easier way to get something done. The human desire to get away is what has driven the technical development and find time for other things. Like model railroads, for instance! |
